Bruises are Readily Treatable
Bruises are readily treatable; however, bone bruising is typically slow to heal and can take 2 to 6 months...
With any strain, sprain, or bruising, always remember "RICE" - Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.
When sitting with a bruised coccyx, always use a Doughnut Ring Cushion.
The following remedies will augment bruise healing, and rest and cold therapy will help alleviate symptoms, especially when first injured.
Topical Remedies
- Cold Therapy (Highly Recommended): Apply an ice pack or cold compress to the affected area for 15 minutes, several times daily.
- Heat/Cold Therapy (Highly Recommended): For ankle bruising, immerse the foot in a basin of hot water (as hot as you can stand it) for 3 minutes and then in a basin of ice-cold water for 30 seconds. Repeat for three cycles, three to four times daily.
- Castor Oil (Highly Recommended): This has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and is believed to be especially effective when applied directly to the affected/bruised area four times daily and before bed. If possible, after application wrap the area with clingfilm before bed, and remove it when rising.
- Arnica Cream (Recommended): Apply to the affected area four times daily and before bed. Arnica is a remedy for bruises, sprains, muscle aches, wound healing, superficial phlebitis, joint pain, inflammation from insect bites, and swelling from broken bones. Arnica 30C homeopathic tabs can be ingested (follow the manufacturer's directions).
- Ibuprofen Gel (Recommended): Apply it, as needed, to the affected area to help with pain management, especially before going to bed.
- Aloe Vera Gel (Recommended): This reduces pain and inflammation. Apply it to the affected area four times daily and before bed. Use a "pure Aloe Vera" gel - read the label carefully to check for additives.
- Comfrey Ointment (Recommended): This plant is used to treat skin ailments, hernias, bruises, and inflammation. Apply it to the affected area four times daily and before bed.
- Vit K Cream: Vit K cream reduces the severity of bruising. Apply the cream to the affected area four times daily and before bed.
Supplements
- Vit C: This has anti-inflammatory properties and can promote wound and bruise healing. Apply Vit C gels, creams, or serums to the affected area four times daily and before bed. As a supplement, take 1,000 mg three times daily. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet as well.
- Omega-3: Take 1,000 mg daily to help with general health and healing.
- Bromelain: This is a mixture of enzymes found in pineapple that reduces the severity of bruising and inflammation. Eat organic pineapple, drink pineapple juice, or take bromelain supplements. Take 500 to 2,000 mg of bromelain twice daily for bone healing. Apply bromelain cream to the affected area four times daily and before bed.
- Lysine: This amino acid is a significant bone and wound healer - it helps calcium absorption in bones and tissue regeneration in the healing process. However, the body cannot make lysine, so it must be taken in supplement form or found in lysine-rich foods. These include dairy products, wild fish (especially cod and sardines), beans, brewer’s yeast, mung beans, Parmesan cheese, and eggs.
- Frankincense Essential Oil: This is a good anti-inflammatory. Apply two drops to the affected area three times daily and before bed.
