Does God ever have dealings with Satan, even to the point of betting with him?
The following is taken from "An Interview with God", by Campbell M Gold:
Interviewer: ‘Have you ever had dealings with Satan?'
God: ‘Yes I have... I once made a bet with Satan regarding Job. The story goes like this:’
‘Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man (the boast)...
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him (protected him)... But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face (the challenge).
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand (the challenge is accepted).
So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.’ (Job 1:6-12)
Interviewer: ‘Who won the bet?'
God: ‘I did of course.’
Interviewer: ‘Did anyone get hurt or killed because of, or through, the bet?'
God: ‘Yes... Job’s flocks, herds, servants, and children were all killed (Job 1:13-19). And Job himself was chronically afflicted in his health (afflicted with boils).’ (Job 2:78)
Interviewer: ‘Are you saying that you allowed Satan to murder in the process of you winning a bet?'
God: ‘Yes I did.’
There you have it... What's your take on this incident?
