Some things Pres. Donald Trump Says He Will Do

Now that Donald Trump has won the U.S.A. Presidential Election, 04 Nov 2024, he has stated what he intends to do...

Donald Trump has won the U.S.A. Presidential Election with a stonking majority:

Harris = 226 (72,690,702 votes - 48.96%)

Trump = 312 (75,783,810 votes - 51.04%)

(270 electoral votes needed to win)

With the Republican Party regaining control of the Senate, Pres. Trump will have support for his political agenda in Congress.

In his victory speech, He vowed to "govern by a simple motto: Promises made, promises kept. We’re going to keep our promises."

Some of the initiatives Pres. Trump mentioned include:

1) Deport Undocumented Migrants
Trump has vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation of undocumented migrants in U.S. history. He has also pledged to complete the construction of the border wall with Mexico, which began during his previous presidency.

In late 2023, the number of illegal crossings at the U.S. southern border reached record highs during the Biden-Harris administration.

2) Economy - Tax and Tariffs
Exit poll data indicates that the economy was a crucial issue for voters. Trump has promised to "end inflation," which reached high levels during the Biden-Harris administration. However, a president's ability to influence prices is limited.

He has also pledged to implement tax cuts, building on his overhaul from 2017. Among his proposals are making tips tax-free, eliminating taxes on Social Security payments, and reducing the corporate tax rate.

Additionally, Trump has suggested implementing new tariffs of at least 10% on most foreign goods to reduce the trade deficit. However, imports from China could be subject to an additional 60% tariff.

3) End the Ukraine/Russia Conflict
Donald Trump has criticised the tens of billions of dollars that the United States has spent to support Ukraine in its war with Russia.

He has promised to end the conflict "within 24 hours" through a negotiated deal, though he has not specified what concessions either side should make.

Regarding the war in Gaza, Trump has positioned himself as a strong supporter of Israel but has called for Israel to cease its military actions. Additionally, he has pledged to address the violence in Lebanon. Overall, Trump advocates for the United States to disengage from foreign conflicts.

4) Climate Regulations Cut
During his previous presidency, Trump repealed hundreds of environmental protections, making the United States the first to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

He has once again pledged to cut regulations, notably to support the U.S. car industry. Trump has consistently criticised electric vehicles, promising to overturn Biden's targets for switching to EVs.

He has also committed to increasing the production of fossil fuels in the U.S., vowing to "drill, drill, drill" from day one. Additionally, he aims to open areas like the Arctic to oil drilling, which he claims would help lower energy costs.

5) Pardon some of the 06 Jan 2024 Rioters
Trump had stated that he would "free" some of those who were convicted for offences during the riot in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021, when his supporters stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to overturn Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.

The violence resulted in several deaths, and Trump has been accused of inciting the riot. He has attempted to downplay its significance and recast the hundreds of supporters who were convicted as political prisoners. Trump continues to assert that many of them are "wrongfully imprisoned," although he has admitted that "a couple of them probably got out of control."

6) No National Abortion Ban
During the presidential debate with Kamala Harris, Trump stated that he would not sign a national abortion ban into law. In 2022, the Supreme Court, which has a conservative majority, overturned the nationwide constitutional right to abortion.

Reproductive rights were also a key campaign issue for Harris.

Trump has expressed that he believes states should have the freedom to determine their abortion laws.

7) Death Penalty for Drug Dealers
Donald Trump has voiced his endorsement for implementing the death penalty as a punitive measure for drug dealers, arguing that such a harsh consequence could effectively deter individuals from engaging in drug-related crimes.

He believes that imposing severe penalties would send a strong message about the seriousness of the drug epidemic and could potentially reduce the prevalence of drug trafficking and its associated violence in society.

8) Cut Federal Funding to Schools that Teach "Critical Race Theory" and "Transgender" Matters
Trump has stated that he would eliminate federal funding for schools that teach "critical race theory" and address "transgender matters," which he refers to as "transgender insanity." He has proposed initiating civil rights investigations into schools that support transgender rights.

Shortly after taking office in 2017, Trump revoked Obama-era protections that allowed transgender students to use public school restrooms corresponding to their gender identity.

9) Building "Freedom Cities" Initiative
Trump has proposed building "freedom cities" on federal land. This initiative aims to tackle the increasing housing shortages many Americans face while fostering innovation and economic growth. The concept involves creating new urban developments to prioritise personal freedom, property rights, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The proposal seeks to facilitate quicker and more cost-effective construction using federal land. It ultimately provides affordable housing options and revitalises communities. These freedom cities are envisioned as spaces attracting businesses and residents alike, encouraging a dynamic environment for creativity and progress.

10) "Replace" Obamacare
During his debate with Kamala Harris, Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to overhauling the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as "Obamacare".

Despite his strong rhetoric and promises, he could not successfully repeal or significantly modify the healthcare law during his four-year term in office.

Trump had initially campaigned in 2016 on a platform that included a pledge to dismantle the ACA, which he consistently criticised as inadequate.

In the debate, Trump asserted, "Obamacare was lousy health care. Always was. It's not very good today. And… we're going to replace it."

This statement reflects his long-standing belief that the healthcare system established under the ACA failed to meet Americans' needs. He emphasised that a comprehensive replacement plan would be forthcoming. However, the specifics of such a replacement remained unclear.

11) Withdrawing from NATO and Other International Alliances
Trump has proposed reevaluating the United States' participation in NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He has indicated a preference for reassessing America's obligations to this military alliance, suggesting that certain international commitments should be reduced or scaled back.

This stance reflects his broader approach to foreign policy, which emphasises a more isolationist viewpoint and questions the benefits of traditional alliances for the United States.

12) Expand the child tax credit
The Trump campaign has proposed expanding the child tax credit (CTC) to $5,000 per child annually. However, Congress, which controls government spending, must approve this expansion.

Currently, the CTC is set at $2,000 per child, with only $1,600 refundable. Refundable tax credits allow filers to receive a refund even if they owe no federal income tax.

Individuals who owe little or nothing in federal income taxes can still receive a tax credit of $1,600 per child.

13) Dismiss Special Counsel Jack Smith
Trump has made a bold declaration, promising to dismiss the prosecutor leading two significant criminal investigations against him just moments after assuming office again. These investigations, spearheaded by Special Counsel Jack Smith, revolve around allegations that Trump attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and accusations regarding the mishandling of classified documents.

Trump has consistently asserted his innocence, vehemently denying any wrongdoing. Throughout the proceedings, he has strategically manoeuvred to delay both cases, ensuring they did not reach trial before the election. He has characterised Smith's actions as part of a "political witch hunt," arguing that the investigations are politically motivated.

In a historical context, Trump's return to the White House will also mark the unprecedented moment of him being the first sitting president to hold a criminal conviction. This conviction stems from a New York case where he was found guilty of falsifying business records, adding a complex layer to his already controversial political legacy.

These are indeed laudable objectives, and it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the next few months…
