More than 700 Migrants cross the Channel Illegally over Christmas 2024.
The following concerning report has just blown...
Migrant crisis: More than 700 migrants cross the illegally over Christmas and Boxing Day
Hundreds of migrants have crossed the English Channel illegally today [Boxing Day], GB News can confirm, bringing total crossings over Christmas and Boxing Day to more than 700.
According to the official Home Office figures, 451 migrants crossed the English Channel illegally in 11 small boats on Christmas Day.
GB News can also confirm that six more small boats have crossed into UK waters on Boxing Day, carrying at least 250 migrants.
Stop Press - Migration Statistics for December 2024 - This Information was added on 01 Jan 2025According to recent data, the total number of illegal migrants who crossed the English Channel in December 2024 was reported to be approximately 3,500 individuals. This figure continues the trend observed throughout the year when illegal crossings surpassed 36,000.This figure includes approximately 20,000 crossings after the Labour Party assumed power in the July 2024 UK Election. This confirms the success of Keir Starmer's "Open Border" policy for migrants and asylum seekers! The statistics can be broken down as follows:1. Weekly Trends: The number of crossings varied weekly, with some weeks witnessing higher activity due to favourable weather conditions.2. Demographics: The demographic composition of those crossing included a large number of single men, few families, and fewer unaccompanied minors, each group facing unique challenges and vulnerabilities.3. Preventive Measures: The French authorities continue to make indifferent efforts to prevent crossings, including increased patrols and surveillance technology. Not surprisingly, the number of successful crossings remained significant.
Christmas Arrivals
The Christmas arrivals have been taken to the Border Force Processing Centre at Dover Harbour.
UK Border Force is on heightened alert for a surge in small boat crossings over the next few days as calm weather conditions remain in the English Channel.
On Tuesday, GB News exclusively revealed that thousands of migrants were massing along the northern coast of France, preparing to cross to the UK over the Christmas period.
GB News filmed images of hundreds of migrants around one makeshift camp near Dunkirk, and hundreds more were seen along the main roads around Dunkirk.
Poor weather conditions, which had prevented migrant crossings for more than a week, finally gave way late on Christmas Eve to much better conditions in the Channel. Very light winds have allowed waves t.
UK and French authorities are on heightened alert for better weather over the next five to six days, which could see more than two thousand illegal migrants crossing into UK waters.
Just before 5 am today, the Border Force vessel Volunteer arrived in Dover harbour with 110 people taken off two migrant boats.
GB News Kent producer reports a hazardous situation in the Channel, as four other small boats attempted to cross in foggy conditions.
Crossing in fog is particularly dangerous, as large container ships and other vessels in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes cannot see the small migrant boats.
More than 35,000 migrants have made the illegal journey from France so far this year, 2024, 20 per cent higher than last year.
In October 2024, the number of people crossing was 29.
GB News travelled to the makeshift migrant camp at Grand Synth near Dunkirk.
More than 500 migrants were in that one camp alone - local activist groups and charities were feeding many.
The numbers in and around the coastal camps fluctuate depending on weather conditions and the schedule for launches prepared by the people smugglers.
Many migrants travel to the coast hours and days before their planned sailing day.
One small boat smuggler has offered migrants a "Christmas special" deal.
The smuggler, who uses the name "Salar" on the Telegram messaging site, wrote that he had 15 places available on a small boat.
He said, "From the 25th until the 29th, there will be special offers, and the weather is also good—God willing, you will be in England before the new year."
The UK Prime Minister has vowed to "smash the gangs" and end the small boats crisis—nothing concrete so far.
The Labour Government has signed several agreements with other countries to improve law enforcement cooperation in the fight against smugglers.
But so far, there has been no slowdown in the numbers crossing from France.
A Labour source said: "The Tories left an appalling legacy of broken border security with control of our borders outsourced to criminal gangs.
"We are fixing the foundations with a new Border Security Command, 100 new specialist investigators and new agreements with Europe and beyond to break up the business models of the evil criminal gangs making millions from small boat crossings.
"We are increasing removals of those with no right to be here and are clamping down on illegal working."
